Phase 3: Masks Optional Beginning June 6th

On Sunday, June 6th, we will transition to a mask optional policy. This will apply to all ministries of our church, including VBS.

This is a decision that the deacons and I have made together. There are several factors that helped us come to this decision:

1. After prayer and discussion, we feel the time is right.
2. The number of Covid-19 cases have dropped significantly, especially in St. Charles County.
3. We are at a point now where most adults have been able to receive a vaccine if they wish.
4. Kids aged 12-17 are now able to get the vaccine as well.
5. Other churches in our area are moving to a similar policy as ours.

During the pandemic, Bogey Hills has tried very hard to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible. We have taken a very slow, cautious and well thought out approach to reopening. Our policies have been more restrictive than other churches and I don't regret it. We have done a great job at keeping everyone as safe as possible (by the grace of God). This has included people sitting with their families and being spaced apart during the worship time. Also by asking people to wear a mask when entering the building and during Sunday School. We've even provided a way for everyone (depending on their comfort level) to be involved in a community group. This includes home groups, church groups, online groups and online prayer and Bible Study. Now is the time to move on to the next phase of making masks optional.

One question that arose during our meeting was, "What about the kids?" Our discussion in the meeting focused on the fact that kids 3yrs and up have already been wearing masks at our church. They've done a really good job with it. So if their parents wish for their children to continue wearing a mask, it shouldn't be a problem for them.

There's one exception that may require some to wear a mask still. This includes teachers/nursery workers who work with younger children (babies - 2yrs) that aren't able to wear a mask. In that case, those individuals (teachers/nursery workers) may be asked to wear a mask during those times.

I realize this is a big change and perhaps you have more questions. If so, please feel free to call or email me.

Thank you,
Pastor Coby
